Mrs. Jackie's Day care safety Policy July 2021
When bringing your child in each morning, state law requires that we have you sign your child in. Also, you must personally bring your child/children up the stairs and pass the gate you must also close the gate and lock the front door on your way out. The front door along with all other doors must be lock at all times. There will be no playing on the stair all parents and children must follow this rule to insure the safety of the child/children.. We will release your child only to parents or guardians with legal custody or persons over the age of 18 who are designated on your enrollment information.
When you come to pick up your child in the afternoon we again ask you to sign out. Adults other than parents will be required to show ID. If you arrive after closing time, we do charge a late pick up fee of 10.00 per hour. If you are more than one hour late and we are unable to reach an emergency contact the police and child protective services will be called. Daily reminders are posted on a white board in the entrance, and notices and newsletters are available at the sign-in table. Please read the posted information as it pertains to the daily functions at my day care homes/centers.
Once enrolled at Mrs. Jackie's Day care, you will be given a personal code tags, once you receive this tag none that does not have the tag can pick up your child/children and they must be on the pick up list and have a valid id. We ask that you follow these rule to insure the safety of the child/children. We ask that you do not give this code tag to any other person that is not authorize to pick up your child. Once that person knock on the door we will check their ID, have them sign your child out, and assist them in getting your child’s belongings gathered. No child will be permitted to leave the home/center without an authorized adult. To ensure that Mrs. Jackie's Day care is in compliance with any court orders pertaining to the custody of your child, we require a certified copy of a custody order. We keep this information confidential and solely for the safety of your child. If a new custody order is issued or if a restraining order has been issued against either parent, we will also need that information on file. It is our policy to remain neutral in all custody matters and we may not serve as a visitation site.
An accurate attendance sheet is kept throughout the day. A count of the children is made at regular intervals. If a child is lost or missing I will respond immediately to find them . If the child is not located within a few minutes, the police will be called and the parents will be notified.
To promote a safe environment and quality care, the use of alcohol is not allowed anywhere on the premises Mrs. Jackie's Day care , while children are present. The presence and/or use of illegal substances will never be permitted; the authorities will be called if the presence and/or use of illegal substances is suspected. All smoking will be done outside in the front in the driveway well away from child/children . No smoking in the house at anytime.
As mandated by licensing rules, criminal background checks are run on myself, my family members 18 years old and older, and substitutes according to the currently mandated schedule.
We take every precaution to make sure your child/children is safe. Our ratios are at state regulations and we do frequent inspections and maintenance of the house/building, the playground, and our equipment. But because kids will be kids, accidents may happen. When they do, and we feel medical attention is necessary, we may call emergency personnel and then call you or your designated contact. We recommend you call your health insurance company for reimbursement of the related medical costs. So we ask that you provide us with your insurance card on each child in there file. And all files will be lock in the lock box.
To prepare for the protection of the children and staff in the event of a natural or human caused emergency or disaster, we have regular drills and practices so your child can react in a safe and orderly manner. If an actual emergency requires evacuation of our home, we will notify you by phone or email as soon as the children are safe. In cases when we close due to severe weather, it will be announced on local radio and TV stations.
If the house/ center loses the use of heat, water or electricity at any time during the day I will evaluate the situation to see whether care can be provided without undue loss of quality. If safe, quality care cannot be provided under the circumstances, I will notify each family to pick up their childlren as soon as possible, and the home/center will remain closed until safe, quality care can be provided. Because I am not in control of such situations payment in full is due for days that the center is closed due to loss of services. Your payment will not be discounted.
In the event of a tornado, severe thunderstorm, or if the tornado siren sounds, I will assist the children to the basement where we will listen for the “all clear” signal. Blankets, flashlight, a radio, batteries for both, and first aid supplies are kept in the basement at all times. To ensure that all children are accounted for the attendance form will be brought along; We have a pot line (old fashion land line phone) that will not go out for this event just in case families need to be notified.
In order to keep our children safe, no one may bring or use weapons of any kind on the premises for any reason. This includes firearms, ammunition, and any other object that could reasonably be perceived as a weapon. Persons attempting to bring a weapon on the premises will be asked to leave. Failure to comply will result in a 911 call to the police. Possession of weapons of any kind by parents or children may be cause for immediate termination of child care services. Mrs. Jackie's Day care does not own or store any firearms, or ammunition on the property. We request all parents to be familiar with their child’s plans specific to our home and to tune in to designated local media for information and instructions during an emergency.
Out Door Safety: All outdoor areas will be checked and cleaned before the children use them. And no child or children will be unattended outside. There will always be and adult out there with them. They will play in the back yard 2 feet away from the fence and trees. Parents/Care must inform the us beforehand if someone other than the authorized person is coming to collect a child and produce photographic ID and the code tag ** IF THEY DO NOT HAVE THE CODE TAG THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PICK THE CHILD UP NO EXCEPTIONS. On outings and trips we must maintain frequent head counts and brief children to stay with the group. We must work to insure the safety of the child/children at all times. A mobile phone must be taken on all outings. All children on outings/trips must wear bright orange tops and be instructed in advance of a designated meeting place.
To ensure the safety of our children, precautionary measures against unwanted intruders entering or children leaving the home/center unescorted have been put into place. The most important step to avoid unwanted intruders is to have only one access to the center, therefore the back and garage doors are kept locked; Front door will be locked at all times as well. The child care entrance door will locked when you arrive, please knock lightly just in case other children are sleeping.
For the children's protection, access to the home/center may be denied to persons whose behavior presents a possible risk to persons in the home/center or home/center-owned property. These behaviors may include but are not limited to: aggressiveness, intoxication, suspected drug use, suspected presence of a weapon, and the like. If there is a sense of imminent danger 911 will be called immediately.
The indoor activities on offer will meet the needs of the group, providing the children with challenge and the opportunity for success. The rooms will be bright, cheerful and well ventilated, providing a safe stimulating environment. Equipment and materials will be accessible and within all children’s reach, including children with special needs. All table top toys, play equipment and bean bags will be washed regularly. Dressing up clothes, blankets and aprons will be washed regularly. Children will be encouraged to respect their environment and the equipment provided. Children helping to tidy away at the end of the session can promote this skill. We will and children will wear suitable clothing and footwear when in a group. We must wear scrubs at all times and children must wear a Bright orange top on all outings. Parents are requested to refrain from having children wear hoop earrings, chains and expensive jewelry when in the Child care setting.
The kitchen area and work surfaces will be kept clean and wiped daily with disinfectant. Any food required for children will be stored in clean dry cupboards or fridge. The fridge should be kept at the required temperature and foods stored separately to prevent cross contamination. We will maintain our Food Safety License and stay in compliance with the health and Sanitation department. NO CHILD/CHILDREN WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE KITCHEN AREA AT ALL. We must use good frequent hand washing techniques and encourage children to was their own hands especially after using the toilet and before eating. Disposable paper hand towels are provided.
All staff in Mrs. Jackie's Day care must have regular First Aid Training and hold a valid First Aid Certificate. There is a designated First Aid Person assigned to the home/building. All accidents and incidents must be recorded promptly and reported to the owner. All accidents must be given immediate First Aid and reported to the owner. Reports must be completed in the accident booked and parents informed and given to read and sign. On admission parents/carers must comply and sign an Emergency Transport Consent Form, in the event of a Medical Emergency requiring emergency transport to hospital. We must have regular training in Fire Prevention, Fire Safety and participate in monthly Fire Drills. Any non accidental injuries must be reported and recorded to the owner.
